Discuss Poor preparation for shower wall tiling? in the Tanking and Wetrooms area at TilersForums.com.

Who is at fault here? Our builders built a stud wall and secured backer board to it. Our tiler then proceeded to tile onto it. We had multiple tiles crack along one vertical line where the two backer boards met. Upon removing tiles, one backer board was only secured with 6 screws and there were no horizontal batons in the stud. The vertical batons are 600mm apart.

Builder is claiming the stud wall is good enough but agrees there should have been more screws. He is claiming that tiler should have checked so won't take responsibility for re-do of tiling.
Tiler is claiming it was not his responsibility to check whether the wall was sufficiently prepared for him to tile onto and that there should definitely be horizontal batons.
Any advice much appreciated - we are stuck in the middle!
