Discuss Wetroom System - Schluter or Abacus in the Tanking and Wetrooms area at TilersForums.com.

Hi Guys,

I'm planning on getting my bathroom refurbished (total area circa 6,5m2) shortly and would like some advice on a wetroom tanking system please.

I've been watching quite a few youtube videos recently on wetroom installation particularly Skill builder where they use Abacus products on all of their bathroom installation.

I'd be grateful if you could answer the following questions on my project:

1. Which is a better waterproofing system to use Schluter products or Abacus products?

2. I would like to clad all my bonded masonry walls with either Kerdi board or Abacus elements boards, can these board be fixed directly on to the walls or would I have to stud the walls out before fixing the boards, if I have to stud out, whats the minimum depth Can I stud the walls out by?

3. The size of my shower area is 900mm x 1680mm, which is exactly the same size as my bath is at the moment. The shower trays I've are either slightly too long or too short, can these trays be cut down to size?

4. Can anyone recommend a pro installer who knows how to install a wetroom system,I live in east London (Barking) and I've approached a few people around my area but I have doubts over the guys who came round to see because they tried putting me off going with such a system by claiming all the wetroom systems leaks.

Thanks

I'm not a pro but I've done the Schlüter factory wetroom training courses. Anyone who completes their 2-day advanced course gets an accreditation photo ID from them, so that might be something you could ask to see,
I don't know about Abacus but can vouch for the Schlüter system. You can cut down the Schlüter shower trays.
Kerdi board can be fixed directly to the wall, depending on wall type. Might be worth giving Schlüter technical support a ring and they can advise you.

Hi

Thanks for the reply much appreciated.

I will give Schluter a ring tomorrow.

Is there a site I can search for accredited Schluter installers, I can't seem to find the search option
on the Schluter site?

Regards
