Nick Knowles, a presenter of the programme, said: “Tiling is a piece of cake. I can tile; any old fool can tile”.
The Tile Association (TTA) objected to the derogatory remarks about tiling and the program’s general lack of respect for skilled trades and the amount of time and effort it takes to become a skilled tradesman.

I like the program but i actually watched that show and i took his silly remark as offensive to the tiling trade.

So well done to the TTA for this complaint ..:thumbsup:

this is a good opporunity to raise money for charity and to promote tf

contacting knowlsie and challenging him to do some tiling is a great idea

ive sen him stick ceramics on one show and I think he may well surprise you

I like the idea of that, like you say, promote TF and raise a bit for charity, we could have it as a one on one, maybe a forum member ( or admin ) against him, separate cubicles type thing, a multitude of materials to choose from and maybe 3 or 4 different challenges.

having been fortunate to work in 2 trades, plastering and tiling, i can say to anybody that tiling is one of the only trades that is expanding rather than being streamlined in the way that other trades are, especially plastering and joinery.

you only have to look at australia to see how difficult it is to meet their criteria of a wall and floor tiler. in the 70's and 80's tiling did imo get a bit of a semi skilled tag due to the fact that alot of colleges didnt recognise it anymore as a 'city and guilds' recognised course and many decorators and plasters used to do kitchen and bathroom tiling but that was only on the domestic scene and it certainly didnt apply on the sites and specialist areas such as terrazzo..

now, a tiler has to be able to fix stone, prepare substrates, have a very very good technical & product knowledge, install wet rooms and ufh etc etc

so, mr knowles, you say any fool can tile?
well in the words of dale carnegie......'Any fool can critisise, and fools often do...

What a plank :fuk2:.

I've got a first floor limestone wetroom with lectric UFH to do this week.
So come Knowles what materials do I need and what are the key steps that I need to follow?

For all tradesmen it takes years to build a good reputation and one job to undo everything. I guess for TV presenters it takes a couple of days to become famous and one comment to prove what a (checks which forum this is in :mad2:) idiot you really are.
