Looking for advice on how much adhesive to use.
I’ve taken on my first tiling project and found that the chipboard subfloor was affected by water under the washing machine so have cut it out and replaced it with osb and ply (the only way to match the 20mm thickness). However it doesn’t match up all the way around and the chipboard is 2mm higher in places but the gap varies and the two surfaces sit flush in certain places.
I plan on using Hardie 250. To make sure it’s level, I think that I should use a 8mm trowel for the adhesive on the osb and 6mm for the chipboard. Does this sound like a good way of levelling the hardie board to more experienced folks?
Another concern that I have is that the living room floor that joins the kitchen is 16mm above the chipboard. So, if I use a 6mm trowel under the hardie backer and 8mm under the 30x60x8 tile I will end up with a 5mm difference. It’s just that I think I’m already using about as little adhesive as you can get away with for these sizes…
Any ideas on tackling the problems above will be much appreciated!
