My Tiling NVQ

November 23rd, 2010

My name is Brenton Chipper and I have been a ceramic tiler for the past seven years.
I originally got into the tiling industry by undertaking a tiling course back in 2004. Having been a scaffolder for the past 15 years, I decided it was time for a change.
After completing my course I became a self employed ceramic tiler undertaking work all over the south of England.
Early in 2010, I decided that I needed to gain a nationally recognised qualification in tiling to allow me to gain an advantage over my competition whilst also giving me the opportunity to work in the commercial sector as now there is a requirement to hold trade specific NVQs.
I enquired at the training centre where I undertook my original course and other training providers in the UK but to no avail until I found Able Skills website stating that because I have been in the industry for more than 5 years that I was eligible to undertake a fast track NVQ called EWPA (Experienced Worker Practical Assessment).
I got in contact with them and was booked for an initial profiling appointment with the tiling assessor Max Law.
At this stage he assessed my initial evidence (photos, customer references, pay slips, receipts etc), registered me for the program and then provided me with an assessment plan (a guide of what I needed to achieve before I had a review appointment).
After a couple of months I had completed the requirements of the assessment plan so I returned to Able Skills for my review appointment.
Once my review was complete and the evidence that I had supplied to date was verified by Max, I was then ready to complete the final phase of the award and undertake the practical assessment and professional discussion.
Both practical and professional discussion went well which means I now have a NVQ at Level 2 in wall and floor tiling.
I would like to thank Max and Able Skills for their professional service and for allowing me to achieve my goal.
