It's sound and you can certanly get work from doing a short course. Obviousy there's lots to practise and you'll still be learning when you've been doing the job for years, as would someboy who's done a NVQ but it's a good step to make. You can still do your NVQ after the course via OSAT too should you get requests for site-work and you fancy giving it a go.

well from the amount of new people arriving in tiling I'd say plenty are jumping in and hopingto land on thier feet. I'm not sure on the success rate of these people. As many are apparently going under as are testing the water at the moment. Even guys been in the trade for many years feeling the force of it and having to find other options, a bit sad really but pushing us all in nthe direction of multiskill now.

We offer 3 types of tiling award here at Chase Tiling.

1. City & Guilds Intermediate Construction Award (ICA) @ Level 2
2. NOCN Award in Wall & Floor Tiling (Including Business Start Up Award) - Sept '07
3. NVQ 2 in Wall & Floor Tiling

Qualifications are important to get any work these days, whether it be on site or in Mrs Smiths house. It shows you have had the correct training and underpinning knowledge to your potential customer. This in turn provides confidence in them that you are the man for the job, and not a potential rogue trader.

Our call volume with regards to ICA / NOCN / NVQ & CSCS increases heavily each week.

To further add:

An ICA and NOCN in Tiling are both classed as 'progression' awards to help gain your NVQ. The ICA is full underpinning knowledge training in your trowel trade. Where as the NOCN is an award that is done in units. Each unit holds 3 credits, of which you need 12 credits to acheive the full award. Each unit requires a minimum of 30 guided learning hours. So bear this in mind when selecting your training centre. Some centres will offer the full 12 units, others won't.
