Customers daughter stepped in self leveller

Was doing a pub terrace in the summer working my way back towards my tools and general rubbish when a bloke came and stood behind me with a pint, watched me lay a tile, chatted to me then stepped past me onto the tile he just saw me fix. To say I wanted to swear is an understatement. Somehow I...

ADVICE needed please! Floor tiles newly laid - Grout looking AWFUL!

Re: ADVICE needed please! Floor tiles newly laid - Grout looking AWFUL He needs to remove all or as much as possible of the old grout, not just the top layer. Any recognised tile shop should have a decent stock of proper grout - Mapei / Bal are just a couple of names mentioned here but any make...

I got one job that was advertised on here and that is the sum I put in the poll...however, my technical knowledge has increased massively since being a member on here - and that information / professionalism has helped me get loads of other jobs, so no doubt the earnings from this site is way...

    which one would you do..

I have done displays in both the local Topps and Tile Giant. Got at least one job from each whilst in there working - just talking to customers. Got more builders thinking they can tile asking "How do you...." type questions. Had postcard size business card on several of the displays in Topps...

I don't want to offend the tiler but...

Got to agree - no trim and let the tiler know ASAP. Polished edges look soooo much better than trim on stone but may well affect the cost / time required

was talking to a local chippy who has a couple of these boards and they havent got him any work. He's had them about a year and is wondering whether to carry on using them. I guess it depends what wording you use on it, but I agree, I wouldnt like them put up in my house as I wont recommend...

    Most common thing asked.

How long will you take? - as you are bringing the first bits of kit in Why havent you put grout in the corners? Why do you need to board the floor? its solid enough as it is... When can I walk on it? (as they are standing on it!) How much for cash? (reply...more as my bank charge me more to...

    Square metre price quoted -

same as all the others - time taken in cutting etc is far more than just sticking a full tile up. My final invoice is what the estimate / quote was in the first place - unless extra work was required and price agreed before commencing that work. If the tiler has just increased their invoice with...

Cutting stardust tiles from Topps Tiles

I have the Tile Giant version to fix later this week. It is a wet cut only and the recommendation is definitely a two part adhesive - I use Mapei's Grani-rapid (apparently that isnt a fast moving Gran) Good luck Chris

Travertine tiling job - preparation, which adhesives etc. Help!

As per above -white powdered adhesive (I use the two mentioned above). As for sealer I use LTP mattstone or ironwax satin for a satin look finish on floor Small concern over the plasterboard walls - think the tiles are too heavy for plasterboard so would aquapanel whole room - others will...
