Discuss WATER OR ELECTRIC UNDERFLOOR HEATING - New Extension in the Tiling on Underfloor Heating area at TilersForums. The USA and UK Tiling Forum (Also now Aus, Canada, ROI, and more)

hi all,

I'm about to start a new extension which will be 27ft x 11ft (8ft ceilings) and will be an open plan living/kitchen/dining area. The floor will be ceramic/porcelain when finished.

My questions are the following;

If I opt for water underfloor heating, can this work on the same combi boiler as the rest of the house (2 bed bungalow, I will be installing a new boiler).

Given the size of the room, is underfloor heating enough on its own? Or do I need radiators

An alternative would be to have electric underfloor heating AND radiators which can operate independently (however I know the cost to run these is a little more) - what are the recommendations? Is this a better/safer/cheaper option?

Any general thoughts appreciated!

Water underfloor heating is more suitable if this is a new extension and it can be fitted into the screed, it will warm the space without radiators.

And it will provide enough heat? Can it run on the same system as the radiators to the rest of the house?

Wet ufh can heat just about any space. It will need a separate zone from your boiler. If it's a combi, it will need converting to two zones, as it works separately to your radiators.
Uheat are a sponsor on here and if you contact them with a room drawing, they will provide a quote and cad drawing.
If it's a new extension, make sure you can install it into a screed. This works best to transmit heat to the space.

Wet underfloor would be my choice as you can always change as to what heats the water...

Wet UFH sounds like the best option for your extension, this would act as a primary heating source and wouldn't need any extra source of heat either. If you're worried about the heatloss due to a lot of glass then we can close the pipe centers to 150mm to create a little more wattage per m2.
Feel free to give me a call on 01394 593305 and I'd be able to answer any further questions and prepare a quotation for you.
