I've just got home from taking a look at a job and it's a 5 year old house and the kitchen is fairly big they have vinyl flooring down they look like 12x12 squares snd they hate it I've told the customer that I won't tile on it and I will go and investigate to see the best way to tackle it and give them the best price I can and send them a quote of what I intend to do now they didn't like this very much as they had a tiler look at it yesterday and apparently he wants to tile straight on top of it I think that nuts personally it's as smooth as glass !!!

Its hard to see what condition the floors in without removing the tiles.
I would also bear in mind some of the older floor tiles contained asbestos.
If you think the floors sound and the tiles are well stuck down you could always use a self level. (level flex is suitable for this)
Alternatively: ask the customer to remove the tiles.

I didn't think about level flex
