Hi All, I am about to start installing a kitchen and customer has asked for advise on flooring, was originally going to be laminate but now she wants tiles. After lifting the old lino/vinyl I have found the original council vinyl style floor tiles about 2/3mm thick firmly glued to the floor., house built 1960/70. Firstly does anyone know if these could possibly contain asbestos, secondly what (if any ) would the procedure be to tile over the existing.

Thanks

Hi Colshaws. If you do an internet search for "vinyl tiles containing asbestos" you will find details to help identification. If in doubt, refuse the work - life is more important than money.

Asbestos is only a problem when its structure is broken and airbourne fibres ingested - exactly the risk if you try and remove the tiles.
