Hello, I’m so confused after reading numerous threads. We have a new build, and I’m doing this first bathroom from scratch by myself (pretty much). Ive never tiled. The shower area is barely started, I just bedded down the nassboard shower floor to the concrete screed, and the surrounding walls are marine ply. I have 6mm hardie board to put on the marine ply. I bought Everbuild Aquaseal Waterproof tanking membrane, which I had planned to paint over the hardie board (one it’s fastened in place, seams tapes, etc). Now I’m reading I cant use the Bostix Showerproof ready-mix https://www.tilersforums.com/forums/tile-adhesive/ on the walls for my 10 x 20mm metro tiles. Is this true? Should I not tank the hardie board? Should I tank the marine ply before I put up the hardie board? I have a ton of other questions, but I better just start with that. Thanks!

Thanks Dave :) So, do you think using hardie board here is unnecessary redundancy?
tile to plywood on walls is outlawed , so yes it needs to be over boarded. Use the Hardibacker tape for the joints and skim over with https://www.tilersforums.com/forums/tile-adhesive/ to hold the tape and strengthen the joint. No need to tank if its not a wetroom floor.

Better use Wedi boards instead Hardie. They are totally waterproof and you only need to use their special https://www.tilersforums.com/forums/tile-adhesive/ sealant between the joints. No waterproofing paint and no tape required.
