You can tile straight over it no probs...but i prefer to level over it first for two reasons....

1. stopps you catching the cable as you stated

2. Gives you a better surface to work to especially if using small format tiles...

I use arditex leveller but there are other brands as well....

i would level over the top of mat with a latex leveling compound then tile away.less chance of damaging mat

is it a self leveller you would use and leave overnight ready for tile or can you get ones that go off quicker

Arditex may be ready to accept tiles in 4 hours, depending on thickness of layer and temprature.

With self leveler check it dos'nt creep under the wire's and force them up, I would rather use addy to level

:yes:I've just finished my first ufh job (my own bathroom) and was pleasantly surorised by the ease of handling of the electric mat, cutting the support mesh to bend the mat around to fit the floor shape etc. Use a rubber or plastic float and just squeegee flexible tile https://www.tilersforums.com/forums/tile-adhesive/ thru' the mat to just cover the conductor cable. Let it firm up, then add your combed https://www.tilersforums.com/forums/tile-adhesive/ layer and bed the tiles onto it. Easy-peasy! You'll find it so, I'm sure.
