Hi really hope you can help, I have a small kitchen project and need to tile between worktop and kitchen cabinets, the old tiles have been removed and the tiled area has been patched as some plaster was displaced when the old tiles removed, all the walls have been treated with zinsser 123 acrylic primer is it ok to tile over the primer or should I remove the primer.

Regards mjv

Hi, I’ve never tried tile over zinsser primer, and probably wouldn’t try it. I did some painting in the summer for a customer (trying to stay afloat !!), and they bought zinsser 123 primer. When dry, after approx 24hrs, the adhesion wasn’t great and the dry film was soft and peeled off quite easily. I don’t believe it will take the weight of tile + https://www.tilersforums.com/forums/tile-adhesive/.
I would suggest that u scrape off the zinsser in the area to be tiled, apply sbr, followed by https://www.tilersforums.com/forums/tile-adhesive/ and tile.
Who knows...it might work, but I wouldn’t trust it. Wesley
