Hi
I intend to start tiling tonight dependent on advice from here.
Firstly the area is only 1.36sqm . I have installed a warmup loose wire system over glued and screwed hardie backer board. I do not need this as a source of heating as there is a radiator in this small ensuite, just too take the chill off the tiles in winter.

I have two questions if anyone can give advice.

Firstly I have purchased a wedge levelling system off ebay to use. My question is looking at it this morning the plastic parts left behind will be in close proximity to the heater wire, as they are left behind when snapped off. Could this be a problem melting etc or will the wire not get hot enough? I know most people use an slc and insulation board, but for the reasons above this would be overkill for such a small area.

My second question is I have brought a heat controller / timer that has a 3m sensor are these reliable / long lived? Also are they left bare as per instructions from warmup who do people coat them to prevent corrosion?

Pic below (before hiding coldtail or fitting sensor)

Many thanks for any input

John, make your life much much easier and use a bag of levelling compound over it before tiling. Protects the wire and helps you get correct coverage of adhesive under the tile. What tiles are you using ? The levelling system will be fine - as long as the wires are incased in levelling compound or adhesive

With Quartz, you'd better make that 10mm of levelling compound to be on the safe side.

I'm guessing you've checked with the supplier that they are suitable for use on UFH? Some quartz can be used with 150w UFH, But no higher. What wattage is yours? Others its a flat out "No - don't do it". Personally I wouldn't risk it.

Jewelstone is a no-no
Esha Stone can on 150w electric only, not water-fed. (This is the quartz that Topps do)

They're the ones I've had experience with but if its made by someone else, get it checked. Or you'll be walking on see-saws after a few uses.

All the bog horror at the back is being renewed. Where left foot goes is some boxing in for a shelf for toilet duck etc. Still a work in progress project. To answer a question adhesive is Mapei super flexible.......says on the bag suitable for wetrooms and UFH. Have some Tahiti Beige flexible grout to compliment.
