Gotten a quote through for some work done to our house and just wanted to benchmark it against what you guys think.

Location: Kent (Maidstone area) (free parking, easy access from drive, no congestion charge etc.)
Tiles: Customer supplying

Tiles for kitchen and utility: 7cm x 15cm
Kitchen and Utility: standard style splashback (round most of room, few sockets to negotiate etc.) 4m2 total

Tiles for bathrooms: 32 x 59cm
Cloakroom: Remove basin, tile, refit basin and seal. 1m2
Bathroom 1: Remove basin, mirror & WC, tile, refit basin, mirror and WC and seal. 6m2
Bathroom 2: Remove two basins, two mirrors & WC, tile, refit basins, mirrors and WC and seal. 8.5m2
Bathroom 3: Remove basin, mirror & WC, tile, refit basin, mirror and WC and seal. 3.5m2

Total labour cost quote is £3,200 + VAT
Other materials (adhesive, grout, silicone, trims etc.): £380 + VAT

Just wondering if that seems normal for what you guys think? We thought it was a tad high but we are very ignorant so what do we know! Quoted c. week and a half to do the work.

Thanks for any help in advance.

If you aren't sure, get another 2 quotes and see what the average looks like. This one may be a little more expensive, but there could be good reason for that. If the cheapest one is lots less and can get you booked in straight away, there might be a reason for that! So factor more than just price into your decision

Deffo get some more quotes and don’t tell the others what he quoted. It does seem on the expensive side.

Thanks for your advice both of you.

Second quote was £1,200 in total (excluding tiles) but he didn't mention anything about removing the bathroom fittings to tile behind. Not sure how we are supposed to access the cistern in future if done that way mind..

When you get a quote too good to be true you gotta wonder yourself why so cheap, end of the day you get what you pay for. Not removing the bathroom fittings to tile behind it s cutting corners. That alone tells alot about that tiler and I am sure he will charge you up front a portion of that £1200.

Hi Lou, We have indeed. Seems like the price was c. £1,500 as we had two other quotes that were around that price. Think the first one just had work coming out of his ears and tried to chance it. They couldn't even start until mid-September.

Thanks for your help everyone.
