Before is perfectly acceptable, done it loads of times.

Easier to do it before fitting the units. I wouldn't personally tile all the way to the walls though.

I would mark out where the units are going to be, tile to just underneath those and leave the rest bare.

I would charge you more if your units etc were in and then I was asked to tile around them !!
