Setting Out Setting out to tile a splashback - Tile Advice

As the title. I have my daughters kitchen splashback to tile.

In the examples Ive seen the worktops seem to be taken as level and full tiles (metro) form the bottom layer.

My question is how do you address if the worktop is not level? Do you mark a line about half a metro up and cut the bottom layer to suit. This would look a bit strange - or have a off level top layer of tiles, this would be a nightmare addressing corner cuts to the kitchen window recess?

What do the experts do?

Level the worktop first then tile.

I always take a full tile from the worktop.
How unlevel is it...?

I don’t even check work tops for level now unless they look really bad. Just make it work, full tile from the work top

Always a full tile from the worktop even if it is out of level if you cut to it
you will emphasize the fact.

Thanks for the replies,

Can't practically level the worktop, has cutouts for hob etc and solidly fitted for gas connection . Quickly put a level on it is out, not gone into detail yet as only a fleeting visit. Maybe overthinking it.

Don't overthink it, as your only going 4 or 5 tiles high the work top being slightly out will make little difference...... better to tile by eye and follow the woktop than putting a spirt level on every tile.
