Goverment wants to build a nuclear waste repository under the Lake District. The Lake District National Park is no place for nuclear waste! We all need to say NO

Not good! What the hell are they thinking?!?!

That's like saying an airport should be the place we hold Islamic extremists.

What I can never understand is wh this sort of waste is not burried in uprise made pits near to the source. These areas are already contaminated so it would presumably have less impact on the local areas that way.

As Al said, I'd keep the waste near the source. It would have already been approved for handling such materials and therefore makes sense to keep it there. They'd perhaps think more about how much is being produced if they had to manage the storage of it long-term rather than just pay a firm to sort it out and see it as a minor regular cost.
