Hello, it’s my first time fitting a wet room and I’m having trouble with the drain grate vs the height of the tiles and addy.

I’m using a preformed GRP tray which came with a purus minimax waste and a tile-on grate.

The height of grate when fitted on the (now tanked) tray is 14mm but the mosaic tiles the client ordered using are just 6mm.

My first thought was to just double the amount of addy to bring it level, but then realised I’d have to do that across the whole tray to keep the form shape, and then potentially the whole room (or at least the bit near the entrance

Any advice greatly appreciated

Is the grate adjustable or have a plastic locking thread that can be cut to suit ?
No unfortunately not... pictures attached

It’s worth mentioning that the perimeter of the tray is the same height as the grate, so with normal tiles and addy, it’ll still be almost 10mm higher and retain the form. Just I’ll have to pack more addy the closer I get to the drain?

What size mosaics are they , a lot of trays have a minimum size due to point loading.

50mm hexagons. The tray is absolutely solid, Incredibly heavy, but it’s self supporting which is ideal to avoid having to subfloor between the joists.

Would you just pack it with more adhesive around the drain (while still making sure there is a fall)?

Ok , feather the adhesive back from the drain to the edges... the water will still drain ok..

Thanks Dave, much appreciated.

Would there be any merit to feathering adhesive to a smooth finish first, let it go off, then lay the tiles with a 4mm notch of adhesive after?
