Hi all ,bit of a long shot but does anyone have any contacts in oz ,thinking of moving over for a year at first see how things go.have family and friends over there but none in the building trade .
Be good to have contacts to bounce questions off even someone who could help with visas
Thanks in advance

Not sure to be honest mate was only there for a few days holiday before moving on to adelaide.
Had asked about with the few people I met in the building trade they say anything from $25 per hour to $45 subcontracting. These guys were ground workers so think we're guessing a wee bit.!!
Tilers there are also asked to do sand and cementing, something I haven't done in 20 years ! Again not sure this all jobs or just specialist job's. Sorry I can't be more help mate.
Have you got your visa's all sorted? did you have to a trade test before they would grant it ?

Yeah mate just sent away my level 3 away and my other stuff to the TRA so I don't have to sit any test,I just had to prove I was a tiler.
I should hear back from them in about 6 weeks so fingers crossed everything is ok
I will keep you posted mate
Cheers Derek!

Thanks Derek , was chatting to my mate today , who lives about 40 mins from the city he says there building roughly 2500/3000 hoses near him in the next few years so you'd hope there'd be a bit of tiling in them .! I've got him asking about for contacts , so I'll let you know if he comes up with any .did you use a agent for your application Derek or do it yourself. ?

Thanks Colin! I am doing it through an agency called O E visas
They seem ok so hopefully it all goes smoothly
My mate who is a tiler is also going with his family so it should be easier to settle over there

Keep us posted on this. I would have loved to have moved to Aus. The best country on the planet IMO. Too late for me now but maybe one day.

Dman. i took the ielts test about 18 mths ago . I managed to get 8.5 and above in all the tests to gain the maximum 20 pts. Putting your name in the correct place on the paper will more or less get you the 5 pts.!!! Unless you are completely stupid you will get 10pts at the minimum. Half the people at Rugby college where i took the test couldnt speak a sentence of english.. Download the test papers from years gone by, and practise .
In the listening test where you are listen to a tape whilst answering multi choice questions, if you miss an answer just carry on listening and answer the following questions, and dont panic. I was sat next to a teacher , who did miss a question, and by time she realised what was happening she had fell behind in the following questions.
The oral test, they give you a subject and you have to talk about it for a few minutes. i got a stupid subject about did the internet an influence to the elderly !! The teacher had to talk about her favourite sports team.!! All they want is for you to speak coherantly, with your words in context.
For the written part ( 2 or 3 different parts to this), Learn how to write a letter correctly as this comes up nearly every time. same with writing on the topic provided. i.e start-middle-finish
The test is really not hard at all , just dont be nervous !!!
