I am looking for some advise on how to best prepare bathroom wall for tile.

I removed and bricked up window and will be looking for a tiler to come and re-tile the walls around the bath.
Should I strip back to brick and fix backer boards to bricks/thermalite blocks?

Or should I just remove the tiles carefully leaving the old https://www.tilersforums.com/forums/tile-adhesive/ and then fill bricked up window with sand and cement mix to make level with the rest of the wall?

See pic here

Many thanks.
