My new shower has (also new) plasterboard behind the tiles, which I'm pretty sure wasn't tanked before tiling, and I'm under the impression since 2018 building regs make this mandatory. Is this sufficient justification to insist on the job being redone? (there are a plethora of other issues which the fitter is refusing to address saying what I think is irrelevant as I'm not a bathroom fitter...) so I thought this could be the easiest way (I'm fairly sure it isn't tanked because there's currently a gap in the drywall (photo attached) with the plasterboard visible and I can just see where it goes behind the tiles and it doesn't look tanked to me - just plain plasterboard.

Tanking isn’t a regulation, it is a British standard and merely a recommendation and not a law.

Thanks for the advice - my mistake.

I wonder though if not tanking would mean the job hadn't been performed to a 'reasonable level of care and skill' as required by the Consumer Rights Act.

That's a question for a solicitor really. Interested to see what the bigger story on this one is? What are the "plethora of other issues" and do you have pics? I'm sure if you do, advice will be forthcoming as is often the case on this page. Cheers. Edd

Thanks, appreciate that. I made a previous post with pics:

In a nutshell (including some newer issues not mentioned in the above post):

- the tray wasn't fitted flush to plasterboard - the plasterboard sits on top of the tray rather than going behind/down the edge of it - which I understand will eventually cause leaks (although others have told me it's not a big issue so hard to know what I should insist on)

- the tray is installed too far back underneath the plasterboard so the enclosure doesn't fit even at its minimum adjustment and overhangs the tray (I understand it should be 10mm within the tray)

- one of the legs of the shower tray is resting on a piece of plasterboard on the floor (the other legs are on the concrete floor itself) - I don't know if the plasterboard was added in an attempt to make things level but it doesn't seem suitable for the leg to rest on...?

- the tray has a few scratches/marks - I noticed this before things got ugly and he said he'd pay for a professional enamel repair
