Im wondering if you can tile onto existing shower tray once vinyl has been lifted, has any body ever done that? will the drainage top lid fit back on ?

thanks Pete

Your tray isn't meant for tiling and may not be rigid enough ,
Your drain will not fit back nicely but you may be able to adapt it .
For any chance of getting the tiles to stick i would apply an impey waterguard membrane to the tray and floor outside the wet area before tiling .

Personally I wouldn't even consider doing it if you're going to all that effort remove the existing flooring and prep remove the old showerdrain and fit the correct on for the job . Kop

Completely agree. Too many variables. Start again. At least your drainage will be there.
