How to tackle this straw board wall? - Tile Advice

Have you got room to frame out the wall, and then board it??

If i were you i would rip that down, I have the same walls (had the same) in my flat.

I pulled down 2 in my own bathroom & 1 in my kitchen, they are a bit of a bugger but they will come down.

I managed to put a reciprocating saw through them & took them down in sections.

The reason i had to take these walls down was so that i could put pads in the walls to carry radiators & a shower.

They werent very straight either.

I've only come across this once, in a flat on the west side of Barnton, Edinburgh.
The covering was thin ply. Had to take the ply down and then reboarded.

I would pull it down, but tried to explain my better half:lol:, no chance and other problem is that on the same wall is boiler(where blue doors are) and it would mean I have to call gas bloke and just too much work and pain in the ... there is not much space either so I will treat it with dry wall adhesive and then put the hardibacker board on it. Wanted to use tile mate board, but it seems to be too "soft".
What should I use to kill mould?

i had those walls on a job last year. customer wanted to help so he stripped old tiles off the walls and part of the walls as well. i had to batten out the walls and cover in hardy, which wasn't a bad thing as there was quite a large gap between the bath and the basin unit which was made much smaller by doing this.

Do I have to batten the wall or can I just treat the straw with dry wall adhesive and then use hardy screwed and dot and dabbed?
Would this be enough? What is the best to kill mould?

If my way would be ok, can I use drywall adhesive to dot and dab or should I use tile flexible adhesive?

I just went to hardibacker board website and they do not recommend hardy to be fit by using dot and dab. So I have to batten the wall as it seems.

What I will try is, dry wall adhesive forced into straw to bind it as whitebeam said and when set I spread flexible adhesive on the back of tile mate backerboards(12mm) and stick it to the wall and then I will use coarse thread dry wall screw (55mm)to screw it and hopefully make it secure. Does anybody see any problem in this?

If your going to use a flexible adhesive use the same addy to force into the stramit board rather than dri wall adhesive which is a gypsum product otherwise you would need to wait for the dri wall addy to dry and then would need priming before any cement based adhesive was applied...

Aaaaaaaahhhhhhh already put gypsum wall adhesive . Do I really need to prime it? What primer should i use?
