So with the Mapei waterproofing kit you get some waterproofing tape.

Bare with me, with sealing the shower tray to the wall you use the tape then tile over. My question surely excess tape will be visible on the show tray depending on the thickness of the tiles? Do you trim the excess with a Stanley? Am I making up a problem that doesn't exist?

Hope that makes sense!

I usually only use the tape in the joins and corners prior to tanking.
The tray/bath would be well supported with mechanical fixings then siliconed to seal the gap, tiled, then siliconed in a matching coloured sealant after completion and as I walk out the door with my cheque safely banked! ;)

Unless you can bond the tape to the tray somehow I don't see is as a benifit overlapping on to the tray. I have done it all ways in the past. Best way for me is similar to John. Make sure tray is fitted without any silicone. Tank to below the tray line, silicone, then tile and silicone .

I’ve always siliconed the tray to death before hand, then taped, tiled, then siliconed again.

No way anything is going to penetrate that...........just me. Belt n Braces.

I use a waterproof tanking sealant instead of silicone and then take the tanking gum down over that and onto the tray
