Hi,

We got our newbuild hallway and kitchen tiled last year, overall we are happy with the job as it was done by a professional tiler who is a friend of my boss at a discount. For the most part it looks great, it is just the edges where skirting/door frame meets grout.

My only gripe is this; we have some slightly uneven bits of grout on the edges and some has even gone on the skirting or door frames slightly.
Could we make this hallway any neater? As its a newbuild, the walls probably aren't straight which in essence has lead to some areas of the tiling being like this, with uneven grout on the edges but as its grey grout and white skirting it looks unsightly in some places.

I suppose we could scrap the excess grout off the skirting repaint? or silicone over the grout around the edges? What would you recommend?

I would also love to know your thoughts on the job from the images as we are now doing our bathroom and want to know if its worth using the same tiler again (this is our first house, we have no idea what sort of thing to expect other then it looking neat).

many many thanks

Hi not very neat at all is it. The architraves should have been undercut to allow the tiles to slide under and tile to skirtings etc should be a silicone finish as its an expansion joint.

This is my problem, I have no idea about any of this; I only know it looks neat for the most part but the edges where it meets skirting its not that neat. advice would be greatly appreciated.

Rake out the grout and clean up as best as you can. Then use a silicone closest to the tile colour as black is harsh against white.
