Hi all very new here just signed up to ask a question!

I am wheelchair-bound due to a disability so unfortunately I do not know anything about building work!

I have just had a bricky complete the last room of my renovation. He was placing brick slips on the wall.

I'm now looking for a sealer for the slips that will basically seal the bricks from producing dust and damage when you brush against them.

I have been tempted to ask the bricky to use the PVA primer as a sealer but I was told from my friend it is not a good idea.

As these brick slips are in doors and will not have any water exposure... does anyone know what type of sealer I should be looking for?

I also cannot have a sealer that is constantly potent smelling two months down the line due to my breathing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Kind regards,

MM

Hi mike, this is a tricky one,

To bind the dusting fully you would need a topical sealer, this will give a shiny finish, not sure you want a Shiny wall!!

Assuming they are fully dry and released of all moisture, You can test an impregnator ( impregnating sealer), but the binding is not as good. People do use them for this , I would buy a small tests bottle and get the builder to test this on 3-4 bricks , apply one coat leave 24 hours and apply a second.
Due to the solvent in these , I would recommend a water based product to test. These polymer based products should show some improvement without colour change or smell.

As for the PVA , I have stripped lots of shiny patchy walls due to the use of this .
