Cheap Turkish metros with no glaze wrap
Discontinued BCT hexagonal marble mosaics for floor which had been stuck to the mesh by boz eyed Bob
Seriously unlevel floor
An alcove
Sloping ceiling
The need to use fine grout (don’t get on with it, can never get it to look anywhere near as good as UC)

All my pet hates in one bathroom!

Window packers stuck down with rapid at the correct heights make my dots.
sharp sand and cement for the rails.
Just make sure you wet your straight edges when you’re packing down the cement, and use a sliding motion. Cut the excess off the sides and tidy up with a trowel. When you’re happy lift the straight edge off as you slide back and forth and it should leave it perfect.
So they act as both a dam and a datum.
Phil Hobson to thank for this method

Usually prep it day before. But I have poured straight away when needed. Just be careful not to stand on the rails while your pouring if you’re doing it before they’ve set.
