Advice on cutting tiles with angle grinder, please?? - Tile Advice

Hi everyone!

Any advice to help with the cuts please? How to best avoid not break or chip the tile, how to keep a straight line...

Do you cut it at the back of the tile or the front?

Any advice would be much appreciated

Cut through the front of the tile, I normally cut through on a bit of ply.

Make sure you have a good blade in your grinder too. A steady hand will go a long way

Just watch out for your pinkies

Make sure you have safety glasses on!
I tend to cut any tiles on either some ply or on top of a breeze block or similar.
Get yourself a decent blade for the type of tile your cutting as some blades are specific for tile types.
Montolit sell a grinder attachment to help with cuts.

Thanks guys!!Glasses, thick trousers, gloves...and if I could I'd use an armor...that sound is scary!
I got the blade recommended by Antonio for porcelain and also Todd so that's good.
I only have and old table...can I use that with some cardboard on top??

As long as it don’t wobble as you want a steady platform

I often use a piece of wood with a rebate down it (Or make from three pieces). Where I want to cut goes above the gap.

Make sure your guard is correctly fitted and adjusted.

I have also bought a electroplated grinding disc to finish the cut edge. I may also purchase some pads for my grinder but I am going to give the above disc a whirl first.

Thanks a million again guys for all your advices, it helps a lot!
I used the table but I did as you Julian, put two pieces of woods and the cut above the gap. I clamped the tile to the wood and used another piece of wood at the top to cut a straight line...then I cut all the way through, letting the guard rest on the tile to help keeping the straight line.
I went very slow at the edges and it worked to get a smooth cut.
They came out ok, none broke and little chipping. Though I did the easy cuts...I'll see how it goes tomorrow with doors and stairs cuts...

Example : You could read the instructions on how to ride a bike, but you'll never ride a bike without a lot of practise!

Impish you are so right, and that's one of the reason your trade is or should be well paid. Even with the easiest job it doesn't matter how well informed and prepared you think you are..there'll always be mistakes...and they can't be corrected!

Rosa looks good to me. I haven't personally used the wedge type levelling systems but I assume they are pretty helpful?

Maybe they were laid first and the excitement of kicking the clips off became too much to resist..
