Hello all,

I'm helping a friend decorate her new place on a very tight time limit as she's been moved at short notice by the housing authority.

The flooring in most of her new place is old florr tiling with a sticky black adhesive residue on it, we are thinking that the old tenant had some sort of other tiling or even linoleum down and that this has been removed without removing the old adhesive for some reason...

Time and money are both against us so we want to use a latex self levelling compound such as one of the Wickes products below as we're both working in the day and need to be able to pick this stuff up relatively easily, but the main concern that we have is that maybe laying it over this old adhesive isn't the best idea?

Can anybody offer some advice here?

Thanks!

Welcome :welcome:

This question has been asked many times before.....may be worth reading one of the latest posts to see how to address your issues in hand..... http://www.tilersforums.com/tiling-forum/61004-my-first-flooring-project-advice-please.html

As for your choice of SLC, I personally would opt for a Mapei SLC such as Latexplan or renovation screed over Wickes. If you insist on Wickes, then I would opt for the "High Performance" SLC you have described.

Ah, thanks Geoff - I'd had a browse of other threads but as I'm a bit of a novice I didn't want to risk misunderstanding brand names or technical terms, will check it now!

Ah, ok, will follow your instructions below...step 2 though, can I ask what materials I want there? Not sure what SBR is, and don't want to just google it in case I pull up the wrong info and ruin everything!

Thanks!

This exact order-
1- sweep & vacuum floor
2- mix up a sbr & rapid set slurry
3- roller slurry coat onto floor (thick enough to not see any bitumen)
4- wait for approx 4 hrs for slurry coat to dry
5- self level floor with mapei renovation screed slc (my preffered choice)
6- wait for slc to dry fully before tiling (no need to prime, but I often do due to dust in the air)

SBR is a liquid bonding agent. BAL make their own, as does EVERBUILD and Cementone. These are available from most tile warehouses, builders merchants and screwfix
