Was looking through a book, believe it's published in America written by M Byrne, and it refers to different adhesives as:

Organic Mastic.

Thinset https://www.tilersforums.com/forums/tile-adhesive/.

Polymer-modified Thinset https://www.tilersforums.com/forums/tile-adhesive/.

Can anyone tell me what these adhesives equate to in UK.

Not really sure about the full answer but I think thinset equates to our normal https://www.tilersforums.com/forums/tile-adhesive/ and polymer modified is flexy https://www.tilersforums.com/forums/tile-adhesive/. Organic mastic, maybe silicone?

I am sure DH will post an answer soon though.

You all answered befor I could get on today!

I couldn`t have described the meanings any better.

Mastic= pre mixed in the bucket ,organic compound that takes forever to fully cure/dry, behind tiles unless you wait weeks or months to grout & still that questionable ? needs lots of air to cure ,why do ya think it stays workable in the bucket with the lid on ?? :)

Thinset = Is a very broad term over here , cememt based powder form in bags is all called thinset! Be it modified(flexi) latex or polimers added or un- modified =(no latex or polimers added=dry set)
I use mostly un-modified bags with liquid/milk to make it modified . unless I`m setting on Ditra or Kerdi .

Hope this helps !
