paint

Paint is any pigmented liquid, liquefiable, or solid mastic composition that, after application to a substrate in a thin layer, converts to a solid film. It is most commonly used to protect, color, or provide texture to objects. Paint can be made or purchased in many colors—and in many different types, such as watercolor or synthetic. Paint is typically stored, sold, and applied as a liquid, but most types dry into a solid. Most paints are either oil-based or water-based and each has distinct characteristics. For one, it is illegal in most municipalities to discard oil-based paint down household drains or sewers. Clean-up solvents are also different for water-based paint than they are for oil-based paint. Water-based paints and oil-based paints will cure differently based on the outside ambient temperature of the object being painted (such as a house.) Usually, the object being painted must be over 10 °C (50 °F), although some manufacturers of external paints/primers claim they can be applied when temperatures are as low as 2 °C (35 °F).

Can you skim over emulsion paint, then tile on it happily? Or removal of emulsion?

This is linked to my earlier question about the notion of emulsion paint as a primer. I sanded 70% of the area of where the first line of tiles were going, then stuck on the tiles. This was a test, naturally. I had four tiles up, and let each one set for different periods of time ranging from 15...

Hi all, I'm really hoping you can give me some advice. I've just had my kitchen floor tiled in light grey Jura limestone tiles. The tiler fixed them on top of the existing ceramic tiles with Setaflex grey adhesive using the "spot" technique rather than a solid bed. Some areas where there...

Matt emulsion paint as primer for plastered wall before tiling?

I've never heard of the above method being used. I was told by an experienced builder that this is what to use. Basically 3/4 of the plasterboard walls were taken off, new plasterboard put up, then had a skim of plaster to match up to what part of the walls wasn't taken down. The plaster has had...

washy paint stains over the bangor slates

I was unwise enough to try painting the chimney stack over the cold spell and the cold , combined with the rain has left a misty streak of white paint wash down the slates. I have tried to wash this off with WD40 as well as thinners but it doesn't seem to work. Should I put my hope in the...

New here, so apologies with getting straight into a request for help. We've laid two floors with these composite (~95% quartz) tiles with a third going in soon. They look great after cleaning and a once-over with a mop, but when they dry the colour is nowhere near as deep as when they're...
