Hi. Need some advice.
I've laid down polypipe plus overlay boards in my house.
My tiler says we should place a ditra mat before laying tiles.
However, polypipe say we should NOT use a ditra mat as it will prevent the tile adhesive from curing.
Dont know what to do. Any advice from tilers /...
Good morning,
Got a customer asking me to tile over ‘glamrend’ I guess it’s a silicone render with sparkly stuff in it.
Just wondered if anyone ever come across it and or tiled over any other silicone renders?
Was think just a coat of prime grip over the top but not exactly sure.
Any help...
Hi,
Would you use Durabase matting over Hardie 6mm floor?
Im not 100% happy with the ply floor so am going to use 6mm Hardie backer 1200 x 600 mm.
Its advised to go in a brick-bond staggered to reduce chance of cracking, but Im kind of thinking that there a loads more joins now than I had with...
Hi everyone, I've been dipping in and out of hear for a few years, always the best advice available.
My question is how to tile over an internal timber lintel over a window, only about 125mm in depth.
Would SBR do it or do I need some kind of mesh fixing to it?
The plaster around it has been...
I have a small bathroom that the tile was all cracked. It’s a second floor bath so over wood subfloor. There is no cement board only what appears to be very thick thinset. It’s lasted 30 years or so. Got tile off. Most of this set or concrete is intact. Can I go over that or do I need to go down...
Hi All, I'm hoping you can offer some advice to help solve an age related problem.
I have an existing floor with concrete flag stone tiles, its only small around 4m2 and is used as the dogs area.
The dog is getting on a bit now, and we'd like to add some underfloor heating so his bed & rug...
Hi all,
As per the title, my tiler has grouted the internal corners of our new shower enclosure with a flexible tile grout. I found this out when visiting him at the end of the job, when he said it just needs siliconing on top, asking if I was happy to do it myself. At the time I thought...
Aloha everyone.
I've embarked on a bathroom remodel. I opted to use the hydro block shower pan and system. When I notched my joists and set my presloped pan, I've ended up flush with the existing wood subfloor. As such, now if I put any hardi board on top of subfloor, the transition to the...
Hi,
Had a walk in shower fitted which is currently being tiled. Noticed that the tradesmen are tiling over a corner gap between 2 wallboards without filling it in first. Is this normal practice?
Photo attached, the gap is approx 0.5 cm
I'm interested to know if anyone has used SLC over Durabase CI++.
I know that Schulter advise against using SLC over Ditra but is it the same with Durabase CI++?
Having had a look at the technical data sheets etc there is no mention unlike Schulter who state not too.
I also note from comments on...
Hi, I'm planning to do a herringbone brick floor over a concrete slab with some reclaimed brick tiles . The bricks have been sawn into narrow longs roughly 50mm x 50mm x 250mm, but there is still a fair bit of variance. Have enough extra that I can get the variance down to 5mm by being...
My bathroom currently has Limestone which was laid on marmox, we are now thinking of replacing with ceramic tiles.
Tile shop says ok just to tile over it.
This would save loads of work and it all seems secure.
So, crack on and tile over or remove back to wall and apply new backer board?
Cheers
Hi folks. I hired a guy to hang and prep backerboard around my tub surround, so that I can start tiling it. However, when I came home I discovered that he’d used drywall mud/joint compound not only to connect the drywall to the backboard, but used it to feather down several inches to flatten...
Hi. I would like to have new tiles over the old tiles in the bathroom. The old tiles are of glossy type. The first thing I did is I removed the gloss from them. I used an angle grinder with a diamond disc. You can see the results on the pictures. The new tiles are going to be 30 cm by 60 cm...
Hi everyone. I have a 1940's semi and i have been redecorating my front room, no its my own stupid fault for not checking what was under the carpet before starting ! After doing the decorating i lifted the carpet to find a quarry tile floor and now im stumped as to what to put over the top.

Hi just finished my tiling and now I need to fix the the architrave door trim. The tiles are proud of the door frame. Whats the best way to do this? Thanks
Hi All,
I have a job that requires me to cover up a pedestrian walkway in granolithic finish. However, the owner has already gotten his waterproofing contractor to install a bitumen sheet waterproofing membrane. I have read some disadvantages of tiling over bitumen, not sure if the same issues...
Heeelp!!!
I've seen some old posts about this but nothing recently.
I have 120sqm travertine over the whole of the ground floor. It was laid over wet UFH and Gyvlon screed about 12 months ago.
Cracks started appearing about 5 months ago and I now have cracks in MANY places - both across...
