levelling
Levelling or leveling (American English; see spelling differences) is a branch of surveying, the object of which is to establish or verify or measure the height of specified points relative to a datum. It is widely used in geodesy and cartography to measure geodetic height, and in construction to measure height differences of construction artifacts.
It is also known as spirit levelling and differential levelling.
so doing this wet room.. picked up my Sigma cutter and was talking to the salesman (ex tiler) who advised using levelling clips with the 1200x600 wall tiles so I bought some clips.
Was this just a sales technique or should I be using them?
And while I’m on the subject, what exactly are their...
Currently I don’t use leveling clips. Having read about them and seen threads on here I’m considering using them. If I you get a better finish and quicker then why not?
When do you guys use them?
- size type of tile
- wall / floor
- do they mean that the surface to be tiled need not be as...
If I can find the time I have 110m(2) of 60x60 porcelain floor tiles to lay. This would be the largest are I have done. I have never used tile leveling spacers but thought I might try them out. Any recommendations? I'm thinking of my namesakes system but I know there are lots of alternatives out...
Does anyone ever get adhesive shrinking?
Let’s say you tile half a wall, go back the next day to tile the rest and once the second lot of tiles has set, it’s shrunk back ever so slightly.
I’m not talking about a thick bed of adhesive either. Or too much water in the mix.
I’m wondering if...
Afternoon all, I will be self levelling a 20sqm floor to a depth of 20mm using a flexi levelling compound. My question is, should I fit a decoupling membrane before tiling commences? Thanks in advance, Stu.
looking for some help to level a floor which is floor boards. I didn’t know how out of level they were until I cut some out to drop the shower tray in. Over 1800 mm it’s about 15mm out of level. It was easy enough to level under the shower tray but I can’t lift all the floor boards up and try to...
Hi guys
Just a quick one, what adhesive would you recommend for 60x60 porcelain tiles going on durabase, also got underfloor heating. Also what would you say the best value for money levelling system is?
Thanks
Mitch
I know from reading old posts on here this can be a sensitive subject - but I have some observations.
I have used tile lash on a brick bond kitchen floor with 600 x300 and thought it was a fantastic product but I realised I was struggling because of the shape of the base bends up and you have...
I need to bring up some sections of an outside concrete area to level it off prier to tiling, am I correct in thinking that Ardex K301 Exterior Levelling Compound is my only option. The area is not subject to rain as such as it has a poly carbonate roof but rain does get blown under it is also...
I have a small floor, around 6msq to level up before tiling. The customer has already poured some SLC but there are still hollows and mounds.
Whats the best way of ensuring I get a nice smooth surface across the whole area?
Hey guys, does anyone have any recommendations for levelling clips/system for small tiles (30cm x 10cm), or can I just use the ones for the bigger tiles? I find the ones I have have are a bit thick at the base needing more adhesive.
Any help appreciated.
I am about to start levelling the concrete kitchen floor soon and I have a bit of a question regarding the self levelling compound I have.
It is the Ultra Level It One Self Levelling Compound
and on the packaging it says 3 to 50mm bed thickness .
Does this mean i am not able to feather the slc...
Evening good people, I’ll soon be fixing some large porcelain tiles 600 x 1200s to an area of about 80 Sqmt. My question is how many of both clips and wedges would one order for such an area?
Also im planning on using a 3mm joint throughout so is it recommended that I should buy 1mm clips for...
What levelling clips do people here use? I’ve only ever used the RLS clips, they are strong and work well I think.
I was today informed you can buy imitation ones just as strong for a fraction of the price.
Does anyone know the where about of these or care to shed on light on the matter?
Thanks
hello all,
i'm just about to start tiling my bathroom and thinking to use those levelling spacers, are they recommended ?
i have some 300*200 *8mm ceramic tiles.
i have an ardex sealing kit for around bath.

the walls aren't very flat , a mix match of...
The wetroom I am about to start building has a floor area 900 x 1850. The former is a GRP 900 x 1400 x 22 so I need to fill the 450 x 900 space at the end of the former. I considered putting a 9mm ply base down with 12.5mm backer board over the top which will bring the level up to within...
i know it’s a touchy subject some times but after using the genesis levelling system daily for several weeks, it’s flaws are greater than its plus points so I’m after something else. The cheap eBay clips, are the bases too thick? Any other issues with them? Is it worth spending more on plm or alike?
Hi - Anyone know if its ok to use RLS over an electric, loose wire UFH system? It's covered with a thin (4mm) layer of SLC which just about covers the wire and keeps them in place for tiling. Will the plastic clips that remain in the adhesive be heated up as a result of the UFH and melt (or...

I’ve had arguments with ‘tilers’ who tell me that levelling clips are a gimmick and they’re not needed. Well look what happened to some plonker who said this to me. The floor without the clips is obvious and by pure coincidence I finished one yesterday were clips were used. I got a call by a...
