If using grey adhesive, can that dark colour bleed into grout or stain pale tiles from below?

I have come across mention of it on here, but seemed a nebulous concept. Tried to search about and its not clear. It seems to be the case that adhesive dark colour can come through on pale tiles or grout in some cases. But cant work out if its dependent on the adhesive, the tile, on the added effect of damp or what.

Tiling with white 60x30 porcelains on wall and pale grey on floor. Mapei adhesive and grout. Floor grouting with pale grey and walls white.
White adhesive is obviously what should be used ordinarily but client somehow provided a bag a grey amongst the white lot.

Only noticed the colour once i opened it, so questions is, can it be used and work tidy making sure grout joints are clear, or avoid?

Only important on stone or if you leave loads in the joints where I could be seen after grouting. If you grout when the adhesive is still drying, the moisture can come through and leave Salts on the surface of the grout but this is the same with any colour adhesive

Grey adhesive will not stain a porcelain tile from the back. Check the 60x30 tiles are porcelain.

i want to install light color (earth tone) subway tiles (backslash.) When i put the sample tile against the wall with a painted surface (almost the same tone as the tile) the tile almost appears too light in color. My question is..will i get a darker look from my tile if my adhesive is darker in color which is the look im going for. Sorry for any confusion in my question :) Also..can i add color to my adhesive.

others have more or less answered this above- adhesive will have no affect on tile colour, but could affect stone. Adhesive colour could bleed into grout if not properly dry or if grout covering very thinn due to adhesive not well cleaned from joints.

Possibly you may consider using a dark colour grout (grout not adhesive) to darken the over all look?

I have had cream porcelain tiles laid over underfloor heating and am getting dark staining appearing on many of the tiles which is coming from underneath. I can only assume it is the dark grey adhesive that was used on installation. It is not possible to remove the marks as they are below the glazing on the tiles.

I’ve just had white marble effect tiles laid with grey adhesive. And some of the tiles have dark large spotting that have come through, I can only think it’s from the adhesive. This was confirmed from the place I bought the tiles from. Really annoyed as it only got laid a day ago, it’s not yet been grouted. How is that even possible for it to go through the bottom layer of the tile and appear on the top. Can’t even be wiped off.

It’s because the tiles are porous and with the adhesive being grey , the water from the adhesive bleeds through the body of the tiles. Thus getting what you have. Totally wrong installation method, should never be spot fixed. Looks like it more than likely knackered. Your fixer is at fault.
