Hi all,
mostly done smaller wall tiles in the past so just wondering how flat a 600x300 floor tile needs to be for it to be ok for 1/4 bond pattern. I have been told if not perfectly flat not to do half bond due to lipping issues.
The tiles are decent rectified porcelain 10mm but not "perfectly flat" as pictures show. However when back to back the biggest gap at corner is slightly les than 1mm(a 1mm shim does not go in).
Any learned advice/opinion welcome.
Regards
Neil Davenport

I agree with Dave, but you need to check the wall for flatness as well, as you may need to pack out a bit to get over any irregularities.
Due to the tile size you will need to use a one part flexible cement based adhesive, the walls will require priming too.
Also If the walls are plaster skim, they can only take up to 20kg per metre.

Thanks for all the replies.
The floor is over boarded with hardiebacker which I "packed out" in a couple of places with adhesive and is as flat as I could get it, only a 1mm shim fits under a level in any direction. I only use S1 addy as in can get it for £10 a bag locally.
One more question, Under the door there will be and movement joint with different tile on either side. One side tile is 10mm the other 8mm. Any advice on what depth movement joint to use in this scenario and how to approach the difference would be welcome.

A 12mm expansion and slc up the other side to suit.
