On the diagram the width of tiles equates to 2m for both the rows marked 1 & 2.

Row 1 has 6 grout lines
Row 2 has 4

So total width of the rows is different, meaning grout spaces would have to be smaller on the row with more grout lines?

What am I missing?

Thanks

You are absolutely correct about there being extra grout joints in certain lines. That pattern only works exactly when there is no grout joint because the tiles are dimensions of 100 (mm). I'm pretty certain years ago stone tiles were 405x610 etc to accommodate for this. I think competitive stone prices have seen an end to this. With tumbled stone it doesn't matter to much and you tend to end up with varied grout joints, especially with the smaller tiles. I would chalk plenty of lines on the floor to create a grid system and work within those grids. Since your grid repeats perfectly horizontal and vertical this will be easy. Dry lay one pattern to get your measurements. I've only seen porcelain tiles that fit perfect with a 3 mm joint and repeat. They were some very unusual tile sizes to make it work. Hope that helps

Food for thought! Wish I hadn't bothered 🙈
