Hi Gents,
I've got two cutters, a TS-40 and a TS-60, along with a wet saw. However I'm finding that the they both struggle with Porc, especially on the last job, (RAK ceramics Lounge Beige unpolished). So I did pretty much all of the cutting on the Dewalt, but even this was causing me issues as the tile wouldn't cut cleanly, with small chips along the cut. Never had this before and I wasn't overly happy with the finished bathroom because of it.

For reference the blade on the Dewalt is a Marcrist CK850.

Anyway I'm thinking of changing out the TS-60, (40 is fine for what I use it for), to maybe a TX-710 Max. Anyone got any experience of this? Am I likely to get it and think I've wasted money and should have stuck with the 60?

Appreciate some advice and input.

Thanks fellas.

Got nothing to go on other than Youtube mate. Cant go anywhere at the moment and I'm not sure any of the local merchants would have in stock what I'm looking at. Started to look at Sigma, but got confused with all of the handle options and their website is next to useless. Didn't like the fact that neither Sigma nor Montolit are supplied without cases, and in the case on Montolit, there are no cases even as an option! Think I've settled on the Rubi but may go for the 1020 as tile format seems to be getting larger by the year!

Thanks for the reply though Dave. Stay safe fella.

Mouldy, you need the tx 710 mate
Perfect for the bread and butter 600s.
Will cut anything you want it to, different league to the ts!.
The 1020 you'll regret straight away, having to find the space to set it up for a problematic 600 is a pain! Compared to the 710. Plus the 1020 still leaves you in no man's land when you come to the ever popular 1200 plank tiles!
So get a 710, and spend £100 on the cheap vitrex 1200, which will still cut anything, but is a bit more awkward to use, but for how often you need anything over 700, is fine and will pay for itself on the first job!

Interesting thoughts. Gotta be honest and say that I was a bit concerned about the size of the 1020, sometimes the 600 I have is a bit of a pain for some rooms! Having said that some of the decision was made for me because neither Trade Tiler or Pro Tiler Tools have a 710 in stock. I would also add that I've never fixed 1200 tiles, been to 1000 though which was another reason for thinking about the 1020; which will also cut a 600 on the diag, (710 won't).

First world problems eh? 😂😂

Hey Mouldy
I currently use a Sigma S3 Klick Klock 92cm. It has proven to be a great cutter. As far as I know you can purchase a case separately, but to be honest I've never needed one as the cutter folds up and is very robust. The only thing I changed was the cutting handle from a pull action to a push against the stop. This prevents any slight out of square cutting if you try to push away from the stop.
I think with cutters its an individual thing as to which is best suited to the user and its hard to recommend to someone but I can cut a 10mm sliver on it so for me its perfect.
Good luck
Joe

Did look at that model but the handle choice really confused me to be honest. I'm a bit of a big girls blouse, but I do like to keep tools in a case as it helps keep the van a bit more tidy.....sometimes!! The Rubi seemed an out of the box solution, where as the Sigma needed a lot more thought and tailoring. As you say though, it is an individual thing, like any tool I guess.

I used Rubi cutters for over 18 yrs. switched to Sigma and never looked back. I personally prefer the pull scribe but have a klick klock 1200 cutter.

So out of interest, why do you find the pulling action on the scribe to be better? Also, I would like to understand the handle differences:-

I find the action easier than the push series ( max ) as you can see the wheel on the max series due to the flip down feet and the pull action is a more scribe and snap in one go. Check out you tube vids.

Hi the TX-710 is great if only so you can use the Rubi extreme 22mm scoring wheel! this should sort your cuts out. Trouble with the TX-710 is it's a bit heavy and cumbersome especially with the long "tee bar straight edge", other than that it's a good machine

Bit the bullet, went mad with lead poisoning and got a 1020 delivered today from Pro Tiler Tools. 😃 Won't be working for a few weeks due to the Covid issue, (haven't got it, don't want it!), so won't get to try it out for a bit. :(

Every bathroom job, even with a problematic mere 400 mm tile is going to take you twice as long as you will only have the space to set it up outside 😂
Hoping for some bungalow jobs🤞I reckon you'll be ordering a TX 60 within weeks 😂
