Could be transit wax? i've had the same issue with it being embedded in the matt finish. What tiles are they? Pics will help

You might have chemically polished it by accident?

What are all the products used in the process so far?

  • https://www.tilersforums.com/forums/tile-adhesive/ make
  • grout make
  • primer make
  • brick acid make

And anything else.

And where were the tiles from? Are they full bodied porcelain or just a porcelain glaze?

Any further info other than matt grey porcelain? do you know the name of the tile or where the customer got them from? is the shine consistent on the same spot on more than one tile or is this just on a couple round one area where a spill could have happened?

I only ask as i asked a similar question and someone here worked where the tiles were supplied from and gave me the answer as it was a common problem with that tile.

Just read the thread you sent Tony nail polish remover could do it, I just hope I haven't got to replace them.

No worries, I'd probably hang fire on throwing any more chemicals at it until you can perhaps contact the manufacturer/supplier once you get to assess it on Monday. I was lucky enough to have Paul here help me fairly sharpish but i never touched the tiles with anything until i had the answer out of fear of damaging the finish. There are other answers in that thread also you could try if you fail to get any information back.

If it’s silicone residue, acetone will generally clear it, or ceramic clean from Lithofin is a product that will clean most things off, including transit wax and aluminium marks.
