Is that right to add inhibitor in boiler filter? Discussion Thread

Is that right to add inhibitor in boiler filter? Discussion Thread

I had an engineer today added inhibitor in the boiler filter via Magnaclean when he did the boiler service after taking off the filter.

But before the engineers all added inhibitor in the radiators, and I searched online that majority information shows the inhibitor should be added in radiator.
So is it ok or right to add inhibitor in the boiler filter via Magnaclean?

Thanks for any input!

If putting this in a system would it at all help clean a plate heat exchanger if repeatedly turning the hot tap on so the C/H water runs through the plate? I imagine not or everyone would so it instead of taking the plate out.

WANTED: Grasslin Famoso 601rf timer thermostat Discussion Thread

Hello, the clock broke on my wireless mechanical timer thermostat for my baxi boiler.
The item is 20 years old now so someone might have a spare one from removing an old boiler.
The Grasslin famoso 601rf was supplied for several brands but its the same other than badge, e.g. baxi, ideal, alpha, grasslin.
Another variation has day&night temp dials rather than just one dial like below. Either will work for me.

Could I pull these flex pipes up by cable tying them onto the back of the radiator (it’s a double rad) Just wondering if the heat against the cable ties would be ok. I’ve seen the cable clips you can get but not much room for them. Any help appreciated

Draining radiator? Discussion Thread

I’ve got this radiator that I need to drain down & remove to clean out due to sludge. Can I drain it with that drain valve on the left because as you can see that it connects to the radiator but that pipe also runs along past the radiator on the right?

What is causing water hammer in my flat? Discussion Thread

What is causing water hammer in my flat? Discussion Thread

Hello

I wonder can anyone shed any light on what is becoming an annoying problem?

I had a new stopcock installed in my second floor flat a year ago. This was intended to stop water hammer which had been taking place. However, recently the water hammer has returned and from what I can tell it occurs when water is used in the flat below mine, and possibly in other flats as well. The noise is a banging or crunching...

Boiler Programmer Discussion Thread

I have a wall mounted thermostat which is connected to a 26 volt supply from my Glowworm 24ci boiler.
I would like to replace this thermostat with a programmer so i can time when the heating comes on and off.
Currently the heating is turned on/off using the thermostat.
Can the thermostat be replaced with a programmer that works off this 26 volt supply or is a mains supply required.
Any suggestions which programmer i should use.
Thank you

The model number is not shown, but I have attached an image of the model. There are two small flexible plastic tabs underneath the fan. I have tried squeezing them together. They click but they don't release the front cover. I have tried pulling the lower edge away from the fan but am reluctant to try harder and cause damage.

Radiator valves question Discussion Thread

Radiator valves question Discussion Thread

Hi guys, got supplied some corner valves but they have a rubber to go into the radiator inlet to create a seal.

Well I imagine that's the idea, fit hundreds of valves but always used Ptfe or Loctite. Never actually seen one like this.

Will the rubber do the job, or should I remove and fit as normal with Loctite?

Any advice be appreciated

Thanks

Small rental portfolio advice please. Discussion Thread

With the up and coming Renters Charter, its probably time to start thinking about increasing the efficiency of our small portfolio. 4-small houses.

Two of our four 1990's properties have heat only systems with non-condensing boilers. One on the garage wall and one on the kitchen wall.

The other two properties of a similar age have gas connected, but use E7 electric heaters. Probably ideal candidates for combi boiler systems...

Air bleed magnetic filter Discussion Thread

Air bleed magnetic filter Discussion Thread

Can someone please advise how to bleed air from a magnetic filter installed on a Worcester Greenstar boiler. I don’t want to clean it out as that was done by a professional engineer who seemingly left me with this problem. Specifically, should I close the valves either side of the filter before opening the top bleed valve? Should the boiler be turned off? Etc, etc
Comments appreciated.

Smart thermostat causing boiler to short cycle or something else? Discussion Thread

Smart thermostat causing boiler to short cycle or something else? Discussion Thread

Hi all,

When I use my hive thermostat in the way I think your supposed to. I.e. set it to a desired temperature then don't touch it. The combi boiler seems to cycle on/off in short succession as can be seen in the attached image of the heating history. Does this indicate what's called short cycling? In a way it makes sense to me that the boiler is doing this if what is happening is:
-temp drops...

Low pressure light coming on. Discussion Thread

When the kitchen HW tap is on the boiler ignites and then immediately goes off, then about 5 seconds later it comes back on. The kitchen HW runs okay.

When the bathroom HW tap is turned on the same happens with the ignition but then runs cold with the boiler switching itself off and then the low pressure light comes on. My house is a two bed mid terrace with the...

Combi boiler - heating not working Discussion Thread

Combi boiler - heating not working Discussion Thread

Hello
The heating side of my Ariston Combi A23 has stopped working since a new 3 way valve has been installed.
It's been a hugely reliable boiler up until now with regular servicing.
When the heating is turned on the boiler ignites and looks to start up but then a few seconds in, knocking sounds comes from the boiler and kind of makes it's way down to the pump (which appears to be working) and then all stops.
The pressure is...

Hi, just a quick question about the standard way you connect 40mm waste pipe to the outlet of this waste I have. The waste outlet is too big compared to the tube to be solvent welded (it's more like 43mm internal diam) and there are no threads to allow a compression fitting, I'm confused.
